Privacy Policy

Quran Tiles is made by Itteba Gilani, an independent developer based in Canada (“we”, “us”). This policy explains what information the Quran Tiles app and this website handle, why, and the choices you have. In short: there is no sign-up, most of what you do stays on your phone, and we never sell your data. The only exception is the optional Ramadan Khatm challenge, described below.

Information that stays on your device

The following is stored only on your phone, inside the app. It is not sent to us, and it is removed when you delete the app:

• Favourites, bookmarks and your reading position
• Which ayat you have read during the Ramadan Khatm challenge (only the totals are shared, and only if you join)
• Your worship tracker, qada record and dhikr counts and history
• Your settings, chosen topics, themes, fonts and widget choices
• A photo you choose as a custom background, which is copied into the app’s own storage

Permissions the app asks for

Location (optional)

If you allow it, your location is used to calculate prayer times and the Qibla direction. Both calculations happen on your phone. Your approximate coordinates and city name are saved on your device so times keep working offline; they are not sent to our servers. To show the name of your city, your phone looks up your coordinates using its built-in geocoding service: Apple’s on iPhone, under Apple’s privacy policy, and Google’s on Android, underGoogle’s privacy policy. You can turn location off at any time in your phone’s settings; prayer time features will then be limited.

Motion and compass

The Qibla screen reads your phone’s compass heading while it is open. This is not stored or sent anywhere.

Photos

If you choose a custom background, you pick a single photo with your phone’s photo picker. The app only receives that photo and never uploads it. When you save a verse image, the app adds it to your photo library without reading anything already there. On older versions of Android, this asks for permission to write to storage.

Notifications

Reminders are scheduled on your device. We do not use push notification tokens or send notifications from a server. On Android, you can also allow exact alarms, so prayer alerts arrive at the minute of each prayer rather than a few minutes late.

Information we collect

Anonymous usage analytics

We use PostHog (servers in the United States) to understand how the app is used, for example which screens are opened, which features are used, and whether the Premium screen was shown. Events are linked to a random identifier created by the app, along with basic technical details such as app version, device model, operating system version, language and approximate location (country and city) derived from your IP address. They also include the answers you give during setup, such as how you heard about us (including anything you type under “Other”) and the topics you picked, and the error message if a purchase fails. We do not collect the name you enter, your email address, contacts, precise location, worship records or the content you read, and we use this information only to fix problems and improve the app.

Ramadan Khatm challenge (optional)

During Ramadan, the app counts the ayat you read in its Qur’an reader. That count stays on your phone unless you choose to join the challenge’s friends leaderboard. If you join, the app creates an anonymous account withSupabase, our database provider. No email, phone number or password is involved. We then store:

• The display name you choose for the leaderboard, and a friend code we generate for you
• The friends you add with their codes, or who add you with yours
• For each Ramadan: how many ayat you have read, your current reading streak and the date you last read

Only you and the friends you are connected with can see your display name and these totals. We do not store which ayat or surahs you read, and your usage analytics are not linked to this account. Joining is entirely optional, and the rest of the app works the same without it.

Purchases

Premium is sold through Apple on iPhone and through Google Play on Android. They process payment, and we never see your card or billing details. We use RevenueCat to check whether you have an active subscription. RevenueCat receives an anonymous app user identifier, your purchase and subscription status, and basic device information.

Feedback you send us

If you use the feedback form on this website, we receive your message, the type of request, and anything else you choose to include, such as your email address, app version and device. Messages are delivered to our inbox throughWeb3Forms. We use them only to understand the issue and, if you gave an email, to reply. If you email us directly, we receive your email address and message.

Services the app connects to

To show content, the app downloads Quran text and translations fromQuran.com’s API, and background images from our content delivery network (Cloudflare) and Pexels. It also checks the App Store or Google Play for new versions. Like any web request, these services receive your IP address and standard request information. They do not receive anything about your activity in the app from us.

What we don’t do

• We don’t require an account. The optional Ramadan Khatm leaderboard uses an anonymous one, with no email or password.
• We don’t sell or rent your information, or share it for advertising.
• We don’t show ads, and we don’t use the advertising identifier or track you across other apps and websites.

This website

This website does not use cookies or analytics. Our hosting provider, Vercel, keeps standard server logs (such as IP address and pages requested) for security and reliability.

How long we keep information

Analytics events are kept for as long as they are useful for improving the app, and no longer than 24 months. Ramadan Khatm leaderboard data is kept until you delete it in the app. Feedback emails are kept while the conversation is relevant and deleted on request. Information on your device stays until you delete it or the app.

Children

Quran Tiles is suitable for all ages and does not knowingly collect personal information from children. It collects no emails or contact details inside the app; the only name it can send is a display name someone chooses to show friends on the optional Ramadan Khatm leaderboard. If you believe a child has sent us personal information through the feedback form, contact us and we will delete it.

Your choices and rights

Depending on where you live, including under Canada’s PIPEDA, the GDPR in the EU and UK, and California law, you may have the right to access, correct or delete information about you, or to object to its use. Because we don’t know who you are from analytics, the easiest way to delete everything on your device is to delete the app. You can delete your Ramadan Khatm leaderboard account at any time from the bottom of the challenge screen, which removes your name, friend code, friends and totals from our servers. Deleting the app alone does not remove them. For any request, email support@qurantiles.app and we will respond within 30 days. You can also withdraw location, photo and notification permissions at any time in your phone’s settings.

Information handled by PostHog, RevenueCat, Supabase and our other providers may be processed in the United States and other countries, which may have different data protection laws from your own.

Changes to this policy

If we change how the app handles information, we will update this page and the date above. Significant changes will also be noted in the app’s release notes.
